How to Pack Purses for Moving to Prevent Scratches and Creases

Moving can be rough on your accessories, especially handbags and purses that scratch or crease easily. Most people toss their bags into boxes without much thought, only to find them damaged when they unpack. This guide covers everything you need to know about protecting your purses during a move. From choosing the right materials to labeling your boxes, we’ll walk you through each step. Any expert moving company will tell you that a little prep work goes a long way in keeping your belongings safe.

Choosing the Right Packing Material

For handbags, use a mix of bubble wrap and tissue paper to keep things protected. Start by wrapping each bag in tissue paper to prevent scuff marks. Then add a layer of bubble wrap for cushioning against bumps. If your bag has hardware or decorations, give those spots extra tissue paper. Fill the bag’s empty spaces with tissue to help it hold its shape during the trip. This approach keeps your handbags looking good when you get to your new place.

Organizing Purses by Size

Sort your purses by size before packing them; it saves space and keeps everything safer. Group similar-sized bags together so smaller ones can nest inside larger ones. This setup also stops bigger bags from putting too much weight on smaller ones during transport. The larger purses act as a buffer for the smaller ones, reducing the risk of scratches or warping. Arranging by size makes for a tighter, more secure pack that holds up better in the moving truck.

Wrapping Purses in Soft Cloth

Wrap your purses in soft cloth before boxing them up. Microfiber or felt works great for blocking scratches and dust. Lay the cloth flat, set the purse in the middle, and fold the fabric around it so everything’s covered. For bigger bags, use more cloth as needed. Tape or tie the cloth in place so it stays put. This extra layer protects the exterior and keeps your bags in good shape throughout the move.

Filling Purses to Maintain Shape

Stuff your purses with tissue paper or bubble wrap to prevent them from losing their shape. This step prevents creases and dents from forming when bags are squished or stacked on top of each other. Fill the main compartment gently; don’t overstuff, or you’ll stretch the material. For smaller pockets, use smaller pieces of tissue or wrap to hold the structure without adding bulk. After filling, reshape the bag by hand to make sure it looks right. Simple move, but it keeps your purses looking new.

Securing Purses in Boxes

Once your purses are wrapped and stuffed, pack them into sturdy boxes. Fill any gaps with extra padding so nothing shifts around during the drive. Don’t cram too many bags into one box; too much pressure can damage them. Seal the box tightly with packing tape and write “fragile” on it. This keeps your purses locked in place and safe until you’re ready to unpack.

Labeling Boxes for Easy Identification

Clear labels make unpacking way less painful. Use a thick permanent marker and write what’s inside on the top and at least two sides of each box. Be specific, “black leather purses” or “crossbody bags” work better than just “accessories.” Number your boxes and keep a list on your phone or in a notebook to track everything. Sorting boxes by room or priority speeds things up even more when you’re settling in.
