SEVEN TIPS TO HELP YOU BE BETTER PREPARED FOR THE MOVERS ON MOVE DAY

When using moving companies in Salt Lake City, be sure to be prepared for our movers when the day of the move arrives. Preparedness is important to ensure that your move doesn’t take any longer than it needs to, and it reduces the stress and cost of your move as much as possible.

Below is a list of tips you can use to be ready on the day of the move. Also, if you’re interested in learning more about all the different moving services we offer, just click the link!

1. Have Boxes Packed and Correctly Labelled

Be sure to check closets, out of reach cabinets, and sheds for items that you may have forgotten. Correctly labeling boxes can go a long way in speeding up the unloading process. Label each box with which room it will need to be placed in as well as what is inside of the box. When a box has glass or anything fragile in it, label the box as fragile so that our movers know to take extra care when handling and loading the box.

2. Have Pets and Children in a Safe Place

The last thing you want is for the movers to trip over a small dog or child. Please have pets put away and children under close supervision. Many families take pets and kids to a family member’s or friend’s house while movers are moving everything in and out of their homes.

3. Make Movers Aware of Specialty Items

Before the movers arrive, set aside any items that you don’t want the movers to take with them in the moving truck, and inform the movers that they don’t need to take them. Such items may include a container of cleaning supplies that you will need to use to clean the home once everything is moved out. You will also need to let the movers know if there is anything that needs to be loaded last and unloaded first, such as a freezer in the garage.

4. Set Aside or Transport Necessary Items Yourself

Be sure to pack any items that you will need that night or the next day in a bag that you will take in your car. These could include medications, your checkbook, or toiletries. For liability reasons, we ask that you take any cash, important papers, or items with sentimental value with you in your car. Potentially dangerous items such as gas, aerosols, and ammo are also not allowed in our moving trucks.

5. Have Appliances Disconnected and Prepared

Disconnecting appliances beforehand will save a lot of time. For the washer, be sure to drain the hoses of any excess water, or just remove the hoses entirely from the washer. You will also need to clean and defrost your refrigerator at least 24 hours before the move day.

6. Have Necessary Furniture Disassembled

Our movers are happy to disassemble furniture items, but you can save a lot of time on the clock by doing it yourself beforehand. Many times, the time it takes to disassemble and assemble items is what makes a move more expensive than expected due to the added time needed to perform these tasks. Sometimes doors need to be removed in order to fit large items. Measure big items (especially appliances) to make sure they fit through the door. If they don’t, then either part of the item will need to be disassembled or the door will need to be removed. By avoiding having the movers perform tedious tasks, you will be on the clock for less time, and you will therefore save money.

7. Lastly, Sit Back and Let Us Do the Work

Remember that our professionals truly know what they are doing. This is their full-time job and they are trained to know how best to move your belongings. Sit back, relax, and let us do all of the work for you.

By using these tips, not only will you be happy, but the movers will be happier too. Moving is a stressful time for anyone. Reduce this stress by hiring Best of Utah Moving Company and being prepared on move day.
